UAE Residents to Enjoy a Four-Day Break as Nation Prepares for 54th Union Day Celebrations
The United Arab Emirates has officially announced a two-day public holiday on the occasion of its National Day now known as Eid Al Etihad giving residents a total of four consecutive days off. The country will mark its 54th Union Day with grand celebrations, cultural events, and patriotic festivities on December 1 and 2, 2025.
Four-Day Holiday for Public and Private Sectors
According to Arab media, extensive preparations are already underway for the annual celebration, which holds deep historical and national significance. The UAE government confirmed that Monday, December 1, and Tuesday, December 2, will be paid public holidays for federal government employees.
Since the UAE’s official weekend falls on Saturday and Sunday, residents will enjoy an extended break from Saturday, November 29, to Tuesday, December 2, returning to work on Wednesday, December 3.
The Ministry of Education has also announced that all public and private schools across the country will be closed on December 1 and 2, allowing students, parents, and teachers to join the national festivities.
Holiday Extension Law in Effect
The long weekend is made possible due to a law that allows specific public holidays to be shifted to the beginning or end of the week if they fall too close to the weekend. This regulation aims to improve work–life balance, promote domestic tourism, and give residents more time to spend with their families.
A Cabinet resolution implemented on January 1, 2025 permits certain national holidays to be rescheduled, ensuring a more unified holiday structure for both the public and private sectors. However, this adjustment does not apply to Eid holidays unless an official decision is issued.
Earlier announcements had designated December 2 and 3 as the official holiday dates, but the adjusted schedule now moves the holiday to December 1 and 2.
