The Sindh government has decided to extend its electric scooter training program for women to Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana, following the initiative’s success in Karachi. The program, aimed at promoting women’s mobility and economic independence, is part of Sindh’s broader effort to encourage sustainable and inclusive transportation across the province.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh’s Senior Minister for Information and Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon, where officials reviewed progress on ongoing transport and mass transit projects. The meeting highlighted the provincial government’s commitment to ensuring that development initiatives benefit all segments of society particularly women.
Minister Memon stated that the Sindh government is taking practical and people-centered steps to empower women by improving access to safe, affordable, and eco-friendly mobility options. He noted that the e-scooter training program, launched in collaboration with a private sector partner, is designed to help women build confidence and gain the necessary skills to ride and manage electric scooters independently.
Under this initiative, participants who successfully complete the training will also be provided with free driving licenses, a move aimed at eliminating financial hurdles and encouraging greater participation among women from diverse backgrounds.
During the same meeting, the minister also reviewed updates on major infrastructure projects, including the Taj Haider Bridge, a key component of Karachi’s Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. Memon confirmed that construction on the bridge has been completed and that it will soon be opened for public use, marking another milestone in Karachi’s evolving mass transit network.
In addition, the government approved a new electric bus route connecting Gulshan-e-Maymar to Merewether Tower. The route will feature 15 environmentally friendly buses, reinforcing Sindh’s push toward clean, efficient, and sustainable urban transport while easing congestion in the city’s busiest corridors.
With these initiatives, Sindh continues to position itself as a leader in progressive transport reform, blending environmental responsibility with social empowerment particularly for women seeking greater independence and opportunity.
