Pakistan Faces Over 5.3 Million Cyberattacks in First Nine Months of 2025

During the first nine months of 2025, Pakistan experienced over 5.3 million on-device cyberattacks, according to recent reports.

Details reveal that 27% of general users and 24% of corporate organizations were affected. Malware was delivered through infected USB drives, CDs, DVDs, and hidden installers.

Kaspersky’s global security expert, Dmitry Brezin, shared alarming insights on Pakistan’s cyber threat landscape during a media briefing at a local hotel on Friday. He noted that ransomware attacks are a major cause of corporate cyber incidents worldwide, including in Pakistan, and stressed that effective defense requires both prevention and response strategies.

Following the CTI Summit 2025 in Islamabad, Kaspersky presented detailed statistics on Pakistan’s current cyber threats and shared practical advice for staying safe online.

During the briefing, Brezin highlighted serious cyber threats facing Pakistan, including exploits, ransomware attacks, and targeted attacks. According to Kaspersky’s data, over 5.3 million on-device attacks were recorded in Pakistan during the first nine months of 2025. Of these, 27% affected general users and 24% impacted corporate organizations. Malware was delivered through infected USB drives, CDs, DVDs, and hidden installers, including ransomware, worms, backdoors, trojans, password-stealing software, and spyware.

Moreover, ransomware attacks are a leading cause of corporate cyber incidents both in Pakistan and globally. To defend effectively, organizations need both prevention and response strategies, including strong authentication systems, restrictions on remote access, tools like Kaspersky Next-Gen XDR, regular backups, and user awareness training to prevent initial attacks from phishing attempts.
