World being a global village has impacted all the states to have dependence on each other. No state,either greatest economic and militarily powered state or weakest in economy and military can alienate itself from others. Outbursting the slogan of non-alignment is nothing but to show foolishness and arrogance,as interdependence in modern time is inevitable. Now,the only question arises is that what limitations a state should set for its dependence on other in order to have balance relationship? It is a known fact that being alone isn’t possible, a state should side another one in order to grab a hold in worldly affairs. To prove this statement ,let’s take the example of Pakistan. This discussion will be fruitful if an analysis is drawn about Pakistan’s stance of alliance about China and US,as their rivalry is on the peak, means what should Pakistan do in this dilemma?
It needs a historical touch a bit, when Pakistan came into being sunk in innumerable problems in which most bright were security and Economy.pk . It needs someone to desperately hold its hand and draw it out from the mud. Though,at that time Pakistan was offered from both the blocs( USSR & USA) to join any of them but Pakistan held US. Many modern critics and politicians think that Pakistan’s over- dependence on US has casted alot as Pakistan is still trapped in this debris. But the opinion is “IT IS A RIGHT DECISION”. It was no state but US who claimed the responsibility of Pakistan’s security and economy signing Mutual Defense Agreement and also millons of dollar assistance were issued for economic support. Pakistan being in SEATO and CENTO was also hugely criticized as it is thought that being in these alliances mean obstruction of Communism,but we again deny the fact that Pakistan had no such power to resist the world’s super power USSR communist ideology as there was no general elections and constitution till 1970.
Who can think that Pakistan at that time could counter communism? In SEATO AND SENTO means that Pakistan is being backed by a power which was necessary,it could resist any threat. It is not enough, in 1971 it is vivid when India interrupted the sovereignty of East Pakistan by a direct deployment of army,at the time Idhra Ghandi intended to attack west Pakistan but again it was US president Nexon who gave a shut up call by saying enough is enough. It shows that at initial Pakistan was in desperate need and US helped.
Also today, US being super- power can’t deny the fact of non-alignment as she is backed by more than 30 European states same was USSR and also all European states are securing themselves under NATO and European Union.
There is no wrong in being aligned with someone. Though,there are problems like what does respective state demand for whom you have claimed your allegiance.
There should be a balance among all allies.
Now,let’s take China. China is providing debt to Pakistan under CPEC which is only debt means Pakistan is trapped in it as China’s govt doesn’t allow direct inflow of dollars to Pakistan. Also project at Gwadar are 91% and 9% for China and Pakistan respectively for next 29 years.
Now,its Pakistan who will decide which option is better.
