Another day brings another wave of celebrity misinformation. Just after legendary singer Abida Parveen dismissed false reports claiming she was battling cancer, fellow artist Naseebo Lal has stepped forward to deny rumors that she recently gave birth. The acclaimed Punjabi singer clarified that it was actually her son who welcomed a baby, making her a proud grandmother, not a new mother.
The confusion began when reports spread rapidly across Facebook and Instagram, claiming that Naseebo Lal had given birth at the age of 56. The unverified news was shared by multiple pages, prompting fans to flood social media with congratulatory messages and blessings for the singer.
The misunderstanding appeared to stem from a photo Naseebo Lal shared on Tuesday, featuring a newborn baby with the caption, “Betay kay liye koi khubsurat aur munfarid naam tajweez karein,” which translates to “Suggest a beautiful and unique name for my son.” While “beta” literally means son, in Urdu and Punjabi it is often used affectionately for any child — a nuance that was lost in translation and led to the rumor spiraling out of control.
Just hours later, Naseebo Lal posted another update, writing, “Important announcement: Stay away from fake news.” She officially cleared the air on Wednesday through two heartfelt posts — one declaring, “Praise be to God, I have become a dadi (grandmother),” and another expressing gratitude to fans for their love and concern.
A celebrated playback and folk singer, Naseebo Lal has had a long and distinguished career, with credits dating back to the early 2000s. Known for her powerful voice and emotional range, she has performed in both Urdu and Punjabi, earning a loyal fan base across Pakistan and beyond. Her soulful collaboration with Abida Parveen on “Tu Jhoom” in Coke Studio Season 14 was widely praised, showcasing two generations of vocal brilliance.
She also teamed up with Aima Baig and Young Stunners for the Pakistan Super League’s Season 6 anthem “Groove Mera”, which sparked lively debate online and remains one of the most discussed PSL songs to date.
This recent episode once again highlights the growing challenge of misinformation on social media, where unverified “news” often spreads faster than the truth. Earlier this week, Abida Parveen’s team had to issue an official statement rejecting false claims about her health, confirming that the Sufi legend is “perfectly healthy and doing well.”
For both singers, the incidents serve as a reminder that in the age of instant information, a single misinterpreted post can turn into a viral rumor overnight — and that fact-checking remains as important as ever.
