A major development has taken place in Pakistan’s digital and artificial intelligence (AI) sector. Under the supervision of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), the Federal Minister of Commerce held an important meeting with a delegation from Meta (META), where they discussed cooperation in digital trade, e-commerce, and artificial intelligence.
During the discussion, the Minister of Commerce said that Pakistan’s digital economy is growing rapidly in South Asia, with more than 75,000 IT graduates entering the field every year. He added that Pakistan’s IT and IT-enabled exports have increased significantly.
Compared to the previous financial year, these exports grew by 18% and reached $3.8 billion, while in the first quarter of the current financial year, they increased by another 21%, reaching $1.06 billion.
The Minister said that under the National E-Commerce Policy 2.0, the government aims to expand the e-commerce market to $20 billion by 2030. The Meta delegation expressed strong interest in enhancing cooperation to support digital growth, artificial intelligence, and creative skills in Pakistan.
Both sides agreed on building a long-term partnership to promote Pakistan’s digital economy and emphasized that collaboration with global technology companies will create employment, training, and innovation opportunities for the country’s youth.
