Gilgit-Baltistan’s 78th Independence Day Being Celebrated Today with Fervour and PrideOn Saturday, Pakistan celebrated the 78th Independence Day for Gilgit-Baltistan to commemorate the decision to join the state on December 1, 1947.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed congratulations to the independence of the people from Dogra rule. The Prime Minister reiterated the commitment of the government to develop the region from, the perspective for tourism, energy, infrastructure and education and requested further involvement of youth in leadership for the
development of the country.

Asif Ali Zardari mentioned Gilgit-Baltistan as his “home” and acknowledged heroes and martyrs who fought for independence of Gilgit-Baltistan; comments that were enhanced by the same regard to the geostrategic location, and a verbal proposal of an airline that promotes tourism and communication connectivity of the region.

The comments continued with the speaking about education and health as priority parts of government, while expressing solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan paid homage to the faith and unity of the people, as well as addressing the necessity for further development in tenets of national unity, which he categorized as religious harmony, digital development, and welfare programming.

The remarks finished with prayers for peace and prosperity, a stronger Pakistan, and a pledge to speak loudly to the unwavering spirt of Gilgit-Baltistan.
